Together with the citizens for Ohrid Lake and Galichica, ETNAR project partner DEM organised a Public forum in Ohrid on 4th November 2016. The goal of the event was to hear and to gather citizens’ opinions about the planned projects and the campaign against those projects which are harmful to Ohrid Lake and Galichica National Park.

We conducted a survey with specially designed questionnaire with which we asked some 200 visitors what they thought about the proposed projects in the Galicica national park such as: ski complex, express highway and tourist development zones.

At the event we engaged an expert in environment who simultaneously with the survey questionnaire talked with people and together with activists of DEM were attracting the public to share their thoughts on key issues such as the low awareness on environmental protection and nature conservation among local population.

The key messages form the public forum were sent to the National UNESCO Commission, Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning with a request for more meaningful protective measures to prevent many of the damaging issues and proposals for future direction of regional development. We will also seek from the competent authorities much stronger and transparent cooperation and coordination among key stakeholders from the Ohrid region.
