Clean energy for Albanian schools!

To promote SDG No 7 objective, SEEP organization through the project "The Proper Aproach", together with Vlora's industrial high school students built a solar panel powered “water well".

The students constructed the well in their technical base of their school with recycled metal parts, parts of cars and tires. A solar panel of the size and capacity that they calculated in co-operation with their mentors was installed above the well. In addition to the solar panel other equipment were also promoted such as water pump designed for the solar panel energy with very small dimensions, which works with reduced power but with full efficiency.

All the trees and the garden of the school today are watered with abundant underground water that is provided by the direct sun energy, clean, affordable, safe, durable and modern.

The well was built at the entrance of the school, which is visible from the boulevard where the citizens pass by. The activity drew the attention not only of the school staff, but also of the citizens and supporters of green energy, giving them the desire and the idea that anyone could have for their home electricity or appliances that use direct sunlight. Wondering citizens often enter the schoolyard and try to open the water tap and see how the water begins to flow by climbing from underground using the energy of the sun. In the moment they test whether it is true or not by rotating the moving panel making avoid the sunlight and see that the water is interrupted and resumes after the panel faces the sun again.

The project was also promoted to other schools in the city and all of them expressed the desire to have such a well to water their school gardens.

Also for the best promotion of SDG No7. Solar Power, in the schoolyard under the trees and flowers were also mounted some lightweight photovoltaic panel illuminators that illuminate the school environment by the solar energy accumulated on a small battery inside the light bulbs.

This project, precisely with the extraction of water from the underground for green gardens is crucial for the city of Vlora that is 90% flat and 1 m above sea level. Today there is a very large amount of drinking water consumed in our city for garden irrigation, it is a large amount of energy used by the water supplier and other costs of dispersal or maintenance that go to waste. This also causes the lack of drinking water in some suburban areas of the city or limited time water supply. The propagation of this model where every house and every institution has its own water well for garden irrigation is very important for our city, where the sun in Vlora is abundant, 100% pure energy.

“The Proper Approach" project implemented by SEEP is part of the SEEDLING program for Western Balkans, financed by REC with the funds of ADA (The Austrian Development Agency).
